Homework 12-14-15
Hello! The homework tonight is the math multiplication facts sheet and reading. We ran out of time at the end of the day, so your child will not come home with a homework log or self-assessment. :)
There will not be a spelling test this week, so no spelling homework!

Hour of Code/Chromebooks
Happy Friday! Hopefully your child came home excited today with news that third grade has finally received their chromebooks! We are sharing them amongst all the third grade classes, but we have enough that we are able to use them about three times a week. I am very excited about the engagement that chrome books bring into the classroom. In fact, this week was National Hour of Code week and your child was actually able to do some coding today! This is such a great opportunity to get them exposed to this technology and get them interested in the types of jobs that are, and will be, available for them in the future.
Also, thank you very much to everyone that helped with the supplies. I am truly grateful and I can't wait for you to see what we are making next week!
You can see the hour of code info here: Hour of Code

Homework and Announcement!
Hello! The holidays are getting closer! With that in mind, I have a couple art activities/events that I would like to do in class and it would be awesome if I could get some help with the supplies. If you are interested in helping out, please just contact me and I would GREATLY appreciate it. I don't want to put a list here in fear that someone will buy supplies when someone else has already purchased them. One of the activities we are doing is a "Christmas Around the World" rotation. The students will rotate to different third grade teachers throughout the day and learn about how different countries celebrate Christmas and do a small activity/craft to go along with it. I have done it for 3 years now and the kids really enjoy it! If you do not wish your child to participate in any of these activities because of personal beliefs, please let me know and I will have something else for them to do.
Also, some students still seem to be having a difficult time with subtracting with regrouping. It is a very difficult concept to understand! Therefore, I have been reteaching daily! This is the "old-school" algorithm that we are all so familiar with, so it makes sense to us, but not so much our kids! :) For homework tonight, students were to take home their graded Math Classwork and fix their incorrect answers so they could improve their grade.
We have also been talking a lot about grades in class and what a percent/letter grade actually means. Seeing as how our third graders haven't learned percents and have never been exposed to letter grades, this is also a new concept! I have been explaining what each grade means and letting them know that they have the opportunity to improve that grade by working hard and fixing their mistakes. After all, the goal for them is to learn the concept, so if they are putting in the extra effort to fix their errors, they are learning, and therefore, deserve an improvement in their grade. :)
****I also want to make it clear that I often allow students to fix their work and resubmit for a better grade, so if you see work coming home that is not "up to par", this may be an option, just ask me just to be sure. :)
Homework- 1) fix math mistakes on worksheets
2) reading for 20 minutes
As always thank you, thank you, thank you, for being such amazing and supportive parents!

Homework 12/2/15
Hello! The homework tonight is:
Reading 20 minutes
Prodigy Math ( https://prodigygame.com/Play/ )
If your child did not finish their opinion writing we did together as a class, then I have posted it below so they can finish it. We did the entire thing together, your child just needs to complete two sentences (reds/explanations) that further support the yellow sentence that states that they wouldn't want to go on the Mayflower because it was dangerous (see the paragraph below).
***I have sent home some supplemental math worksheets to some students that wanted the extra practice. Since it is a district-wide policy that we can't send home math homework, if you would like to get some extra practice for your child, feel free to ask and I can send it home, but it is not required. :)
PS - if you click on the picture below, it will enlarge. :)
