10/29 Homework

Happy Thursday! We're almost to the end of the week! That means that students will have a spelling test tomorrow on their spelling words. Please have them complete Thursday night's homework on the nightly list provided to the right of this post. Also, students should read for 20 minutes. Lastly, I sent home a math practice test that is an exact replica of the test they will be taking tomorrow. (I did change the numbers around.) It would be great if you could review the test with your child to ensure understanding. We reviewed it today as a class, but a little extra "refresher" will only benefit them. Because we reviewed the answers in class, they should have used their red pen to correct their test and have the right answers, but just in case, I have posted a copy of the practice test below. Let me know if you have any questions! :)

For keyboarding, they can choose any game to practice their keyboarding, but I have a website listed in my "academic resources" area at the top right hand side of this website. Thank you!

10/27 Homework & Announcement

Hello! The homework tonight is for students to read 20 minutes and do their nightly spelling homework. The "Tuesday" spelling homework is listed to the right of this post. I will collect all spelling homework on Friday. Have a good one!

Also, tomorrow is military day, so your child can dress up in military attire to participate in Red Ribbon Week!

Finally, our fall festival basket is looking very bare! Mrs. Cruz and I would be so appreciative if you could donate anything Disney-related to our basket so we can raffle it off at the fall festival. Again, those donations are due November 2nd. As always, thank you for your support!

Week of 10/26 Spelling Word Sorts

Here are this week's spelling sorts. I have also created a new nightly spelling list located to the right of this page. If you are using a phone, you may not be able to see it, but on a computer, the nightly spelling is located all the way to the right of the page.

Group 1: #11, 14, 20, 8, 5, 12, 15, 19, 18, 13, 4, 26, 21, 22.5 <-- if your child's class number is listed, they are in group 1 and here is a picture of those words sorted for you.

Group 2: #27, 22, 1, 23, 6, 7, 25, 9, 10, 2, 17, 24, 16 <-- if your child's class number is listed, they are in group 2 and here is a picture of those words sorted for you.

10/22/15 Homework

Happy Thursday! The homework tonight is for students to read 20 minutes and practice their spelling words. They can choose any way to practice them! Let them do what works for them! They can write them, spell them out loud to you, anything! Test will be tomorrow. :) They still have the same words as they had last week. I didn't want to rush and give them the spelling test since we had so many minimum days last week. This way, they should have had plenty of time to work and practice these words! :)

10/19

Hello! I would like the students to read 20 minutes tonight (raz-kids or their library book), practice their math flashcards with you and then just their words from last week ONE time. Your child should have kept the words they cut out from last week's homework. If they didn't, their words are located on last week's post. Let me know if you have any questions! :)

10/14/15 Homework

Hello! We ran out of time to fill out our homework logs today, so I told the students I would post their homework here. All they have to do for homework tonight is read for 20 minutes. They can choose between Raz-Kids or a regular book. Thank you!

10/2/15 Homework

Happy Monday! The homework tonight is just spelling homework. Please ignore the spelling list to the right of this screen. I would like students to write their words down on a piece of paper and then cut them out and sort them. If your child does not know their words, they can find them below separated by their class number to avoid putting their names on my website.
Group 1 Sort: #11, 14, 20, 8, 5, 12, 15, 19, 18, 13, 4, 26, 21, 22.5 <-- if your child's class number is listed, they are in group 1 and here is a picture of those words sorted for you. (love and one are "oddballs" meaning they don't follow any of those patterns).

Group 2 Sort: #27, 22, 1, 23, 6, 7, 25, 9, 10, 2, 17, 24, 16 <-- if your child's class number is listed, they are in group 2 and here is a picture of those words sorted for you.

Please let me know if you have any questions! Also, your child will NOT have a spelling test Friday because we have so many minimum days this week. Their spelling test will be next Friday and I will collect all the spelling homework then.

Homework 10/8/15

Happy Thursday! The homework tonight is math and spelling. I have attached the math worksheet as homework, but they will come home with their own copy to complete. My goal is for students to become fluent in these math facts, so I am trying to teach them strategies to find the answer. For example, if they know that 3 x 3 is 9, then they should be able to easily figure out 3 x 4, since the answer would be 9 + another 3 to get 12. We have talked about this in class, but I thought it would be helpful for you to know! The spelling homework tonight is for students to sort their words and write them 3 times each. Forget the "Thursday nightly spelling homework" page to the right. I would rather them sort their words and practice writing them for the test tomorrow! Yes, there WILL be a spelling test tomorrow! Thank you! :)

10/7 Spelling Pics & Homework

Hello! I heard that my pictures from yesterday were not showing up for some of you, so let's try this again! :) I have posted below what the spelling sorts should look like should your child run into any problems this week categorizing the sorts. Also, the homework tonight is just math flashcards (5 minutes), reading and spelling. Thank you!

10/6/15- Help Regarding the Spelling!

The homework for tonight is keyboarding practice, spelling homework and math flashcards. I will be limiting any math homework sent home with your child, but I do ask that you help them practice their math fluency by asking them their multiplication facts. About 5 minutes a day will help immensely in their math classwork! The spelling homework tonight is just for your child to cut out and sort their words just like we did in class. I gave your child two sheets of paper with their word sort on it; one stays at school and one goes home. Therefore, the one they come home with tonight can stay at home. After we take the test on Friday, those words can be thrown away and they will get a new set of words next week. To help you sort them with your child, I have attached a picture of what the sorted words should look like. There are two sorts here, so look at the picture of the words that matches the sort your child has. (I have two different spelling sorts going at a time in my class to differentiate for varying student spelling needs). In regards to the VCC, VCV, etc. The "v' stands for vowels and the "c" stands for consonants. Therefore, a VCC word would have a vowel followed by two consonants. Hope this helps! :) Finally, the keyboarding practice link is under the "academic resources" area in the upper right hand corner of my webpage, but I am not picky, they can do any keyboarding practice game they want. The important thing is that they are practicing their keyboarding/typing.

Thanks for your support!

Homework 10/5/15

Happy Monday! If your child finished all their classwork, then all they have for homework tonight is reading! They may do Raz-kids or read a regular book.

If they did not finish their classwork, then they may have math and/or writing to complete. The math answers are posted below. For writing, your child is to take the information they have in their bubble map to a written paragraph. We have talked a lot in class about how to do this, but if you find they are having a very difficult time, I can do in class with them tomorrow.

Students will not have spelling homework until tomorrow!

Have a good day!

Homework 10/1

Hello! The homework tonight is reading for 20 minutes (any book or Raz-kids) and spelling homework. I was told the other day that if you are using a phone to look at this website, then you can't see the nightly spelling list I keep referring to on the right side of the website. I'm sorry about that! I had no idea you wouldn't be able to see it. Therefore, I'll write here in this post as well. Thursday nights spelling homework is to write down what you have learned from this spelling sort. Some students may write they were able to see patterns to help them spell, they could remember how to spell words better because they categorized them, etc. There isn't a right or wrong answer.

Just to recap, there is spelling homework and reading tonight. I will collect their spelling work tomorrow before our spelling test. Have a good one!
